How to gain more clients
Want to attract and keep new clients? Constantly striving to increase or retain client numbers is essential to running a profitable hair or beauty business. Follow our top 10 tips to build your client base and grow your business without breaking the bank.1. Contact List
Build a database of contacts with their name, contact information, treatment history and allergies. Send marketing emails or an e-newsletter once a month showing your current promotions, new treatments or news.
2. Website
Ensure all information is easy to find and up to date. Include full address details and a Google map so clients can find you easily. Also include pages for the treatments you offer, your prices and your offers; clients shouldn’t have to search for answers. Pictures of your work should be prominent but do not over clutter pages. Let people know where they can find you on social media. Your website must also be mobile friendly so people can view it on their smartphones or tablets.
3. Social Media
Post before and after pictures of your work on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. Run competitions and promote your current offers. Keep information on your social media accounts updated and use hashtags to promote your location and services. Also list your details on free online business directories. Read our blog on how to make the most of social media.
4. Loyalty Schemes
Offer clients a stamp card, working towards a discount/free treatment after a certain number of visits. Do not underestimate the importance of word of mouth. Reward this with a recommend a friend scheme, offering a discount.
5. Business Cards
Feature contact information, location, services/treatments you offer, social media sites you are on and your unique selling point. For example, a particular product range, 20 years of experience, bridal packages etc. Leave business cards in local supermarkets, gyms, leisure centres, dry cleaners, newsagents and bridal and other shops. Give to every client who has a treatment or makes an enquiry.
6. Flyers
Feature similar information to business cards but also include photos of your work. Carry out flyer drops around your local area. Hand out flyers in town, along with a discount if you wish. Advertise your latest offers or treatments on your salon windows and consider sign writing your car.
7. Customer Service
Clients want an excellent treatment first and foremost, but good customer service can set you apart from other hair and beauty professionals. Always be welcoming, friendly, reliable and professional. Do not leave the client waiting. Greet them immediately and offer them a drink. Get to know your clients; do they enjoy a chat while you work or would they rather relax during some quiet time?
8. Stay On Trend
Stand out by making sure you can offer clients the latest techniques, looks, products and colours. Attend trade shows and training courses, subscribe to industry newsletters and join online forums to keep up to date.

9. Retail
Selling gift vouchers to existing clients can help gain you a new client and, as they are paid for upfront, provide guaranteed income. Make your business a one-stop shop by retailing products your clients will enjoy. For example, when they come in for a gel polish, they can buy a matching lacquer to do their toenails at home. Stock gifts suitable for each season, such as Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.
10. You and Your Staff
Become walking advertisements by keeping your own hair, nails, skin or make-up looking beautiful. Update friends and family on the services you offer and your reward schemes or discounts. Encourage them to share/re-Tweet content you post on social media. Also, remember how vital good staff are to your business. Do your best to make each team member feel valued and appreciated.

Vegan and Cruelty-Free Hair and Beauty: Simple Swaps and Recommendations for Veganuary
The new year often brings a sense of renewal, self-improvement and positive change. For many, this means reducing the consumption of animal products and embracing a more compassionate lifestyle. As hair and beauty professionals, we can support and promote this growing movement by embracing vegan and cruelty-free options. However, transitioning to fully vegan products may initially seem daunting. This is why, in this post, we will explore some simple swaps you can try in January that are still highly effective and recommendations for vegan styling products and treatments to expand your offerings this Veganuary. We aim to make embracing ethical beauty approachable and attainable so you can focus on what matters most - caring for your clients with confidence and care.
Simple swaps this Veganuary
Start Small: It can be overwhelming to transition to fully vegan products overnight. One simple swap you can make is changing your hair brushes and combs to those made from natural materials such as bamboo (link to bamboo page) or wood. Not only are these products sustainable and eco-friendly, but they also help reduce static hair and promote healthy shine. Another easy swap for your salon or personal use is choosing cruelty-free and vegan nail polishes from brands like The Manicure Company. Ethically made and with an unwavering commitment to being a vegan and cruelty-free brand, Zero Gel Polish is widely available at our stores and comes in a vast array of colours. These small changes can make a big difference
