Tonal control is an Acidic Tone-on-Tone that deposits sheer tonal reflects to pre-lightened hair. Tonal Control does not shift the base and is perfect for toning and glossing.
Does Super Sync provide lift?
Super Sync provides up to 1 level of lift.
Can I use Super Sync for the same salon services as SoColor Sync?
Yes! Your favorite Color Sync services can be seamlessly continued with Super Sync.
Should Super Sync be applied to wet or dry hair?
For maximum grey coverage, we recommend 100% clean, dry hair. Super Sync can be applied to damp hair; however the results may be lighter and tonal deposit somewhat diluted.
Can all the shades be intermixed? Can new and old shades be intermixed?
Yes, all shades old and new can be mixed. However, shades with HD-Red dyes must not be mixed with any other shade besides Clear. When mixing SoColor Sync with Super Sync, the Super Sync shade could dominate the mixture. Mixing NN shades with other shades may compromise the grey coverage.
What developers can you use?
Super Sync should be used in a 1:1 ratio with 10 Volume (3%) developer.
SuperSync Extra
What are the new Extra Coverage shades?
5 NEW shades that can provide up to 75% grey coverage, still only using 10 Volume Matrix Developer and in only 20 minutes processing time.
If you mix Super Sync NN, NNA or NNG shades with other Super Sync shades, will it compromise the coverage?
Yes, coverage can be compromised. For optimal grey coverage (up to 75% ) use NN, NNG, NNA alone or mixed with one another, intermixing other shades from Super Sync could compromise % of coverage.
How are N’s and NN’s different from each other?
Super Sync N’s were benchmarked from and perform like Color Sync N’s. The new Super Sync NN’s were formulated to provide coverage on up to 75% grey hair. As you would expect, NN’s will be about 1/2 level deeper and slightly cooler than N’s. The NN’s have Triple Dye Blend concentrate and Up To 2x Shinier Hair.
What is the Triple Dye Blend?
Three super concentrated dyes balance and overlay cool and rich tones for richer background colour to cover greys, while maintaining dimensional effect. No helmet effect!
How is the Super Sync Bonding system different from SoColor Sync? Glycine has replaced Taurine?
Now with Citric Acid and Glycine resulting in improved preservation of strong (di-sulfide) bond protection. Preserving the integrity of the strong bonds, protecting the strong bonds in order protect and preserve fiber strength at 1x application.
What does “Instant Fiber Protection” mean? Does it mean Super Sync protects the hair fiber against breakage?
Bonding benefits are immediate after one use. Super Sync helps protect the di-sulfide (strong) bonds during the hair colouring service while improving detangling and smoothing benefits.
Can I use Super Sync Extra on all hair types and textures?
Yes.
What does it mean to have up to 75% coverage? How does it compare to other shades?
To cover grey means to minimize the contrast between natural hair and grey hair. To what degree that contrast is minimized is the difference between coverage that is translucent to coverage that is opaque and everything in-between.
- Use NN, NNA and NNG shades for up to 75% coverage
- Use N shades and other shades for the Neutrals and Warms collections for up to 50% coverage
- Shades in the Reflects collection will provide translucent coverage to coloured coverage depending on their level of deposit
- Shades in the Cools collection will provide no coverage to translucent coverage
Tonal Control
When would I use Tonal Control vs. Super Sync?
Tonal Control is recommending for post-lightening toning and glossing. Super Sync is recommended for refreshing, low-lighting, root blending, colour correcting and grey blending.

No, Tonal Control does not lift the natural hair colour
How is Tonal Control mixed?
Mix in a 1:1 ratio with 10 Volume Matrix Cream Developer.
Why are the shades already a colour when they come out of a tube? Are they direct dyes?
No, Tonal Control Pre-Bonded shades do not contain direct dyes. The colour that the shade is as it comes out of the tube is its bulk colour. Bulk colour is purely aesthetic and does not have any effect on the shade’s performance or result.
How is Tonal Control applied?
Apply to dry or damp, towel-dried hair using a bowl and brush or applicator bottle. Allow to process for 20 minutes at room temperature.
Can I apply on wet hair?
We recommend applying to dry or damp hair for best results
Does Tonal Control continue to oxidize after 20 minutes?
While there may be some residual dyes that could continue to process beyond the 20-minute mark, most will have developed by that point. Exceeding the 20-minute recommended timing could lead to darker than desired results. Conversely, removing before the 20-minute recommended timing could lead to pre-mature fading.
Why is real-time oxidation beneficial?
Unlike some toners on the market that can look dark very quickly, Tonal Control Pre-Bonded shades will gradually deepen over time as they process. This can help prevent rinsing too soon for fear that the toner has ‘grabbed’ too dark, too quickly.
Is the real-time oxidation meant to be used as a timing mechanism?
No, all shades have been validated for use after processing for 20 minutes at room temperature.
Does Tonal Control blend grey?
While certain shades might have an effect on grey hair depending on level and tone, a better option for grey blending is Super Sync Pre-Bonded.
High riser
How does high riser pre-bonded compare with light master and light master pre-bonded?
High Riser Pre-Bonded gives up to 9 levels of lift with our highest concentrate of bonder. Light Master Pre-Bonded can give up to 8 levels of lift.
Can I use a bonding additive with high riser pre-bonded?
We do not recommend adding an additional Pre-Bonder to any Matrix lighteners, please refer to the Matrix manufacturer's instructions.
Can high riser pre-bonded be used the same day as another lightener, chemical relaxer, or texture service?
We do not recommend High Riser after a chemical relaxer. We recommend a rest time of 2 weeks after a texture service before using High Riser. Use discretion and strand test for hair that is previously sensitised. If the hair is very fine or fragile we recommend Light Master Pre-Bonded 8 Levels, strand test if sensitised.
How fast will I see 9 levels of lift?
High Riser Pre-Bonded can provide up to 9 levels of lift. The hair will lift and then undertones are minimised at different rates on each hair type, for best results we recommend checking the lightening action regularly during processing to determine when the desired result is achieved. Process at room temperature for up to 50 minutes.
