How to master social during lockdown
Make the most of your social media during lockdown
Hair journalist Charisse Kenion talks to two hair and beauty pros about how they utilise social media to stay connected with clients during lockdown and how it can drive sales.
Samantha Cusick, founder of Samantha Cusick, London and queen of the balayage, shares her top 3 tips to social success.
1. It’s vital that we remain connected and engaged with our clients. Make sure you use social to keep them up to date on when you can reopen, changes that you are making to improve safety, to the client journey, etc.
2. Help your clients learn how to maintain their hair at home during this lockdown. Tell them about your favourite products on your social channels, and if you have an online shop and are able to safely ship products out you can use your channels to drive sales.
3. Continue to share your amazing work on your Instagram account; this will keep your clients inspired and excited to come back and see you for their post-lockdown appointment. Remind them why you’re the hairdresser for them!

For nail technician and makeup artist Tabby Casto, it’s all about combining her favourite apps with social media!
1. Utilise online booking systems such as Treatwell, who have built-in marketing tools to help you email all of your clients in one go, making it easy to keep in touch.
2. Jump on Instagram Live and create fun social collaborations with other nail techs or hair and beauty pros. This is great content that will keep clients engaged, especially when it comes to topics such as treatment after-care, for instance. Be sure to let clients know what time and day you’re going to go live so they can tune in and ask questions!
3. Creating fun online content also shows your clients that you will be more than ready when they come back. Try doing the odd giveaway to keep them interested. This also offers a chance for you to promote the brands and products that you market in your salon or treatment room.
4. If you’re upgrading your skills during lockdown put them to use! Make the most of apps such as Canva, Pics Art, Unfold and other content creation apps to create fun social posts and newsletters. Jumprope is a fantastic app to create online tutorials and step by steps which you can then export to all of your social media platforms.
5. Don’t be afraid to send your clients a direct message (DM) on Facebook or Instagram – just to see how they are doing. While social media is great for selling, sometimes a simple text can have a major impact in ensuring that a client comes back to you.
