Get the look! - Straight perfection & romantic updo
Spring is here and it’s the perfect time for clients to play with a new look. We’re focusing on two very different looks. First, there’s the simplicity of a sexy slicked look from Donna Karan, and then how about playing with a cute, curly updo, seen at Giorgio Armani? We got the low down on how to recreate both looks from Indola Global Ambassador, Leonardo Rizzo.
Straight Perfection
The hair at Donna Karan’s SS14 show looks so silky soft, you just want to touch it! The key to touchable hair is to get rid of product build up before you style, as it really affects the shine. So start with a clarifying shampoo and then add some gorgeous gloss back in, with a deep, moisturising shampoo and conditioner. Oil-based care products are a good option for adding lots of shine and helping hair look healthy.
Next, blow-dry the hair straight, encouraging the cuticle to lie flat, which adds more lustre. Then take the very front strands to about 2cm depth and apply a shine serum, smoothing the section back flat against the head to hide a centre parting and secure with a simple clip. This is a great subtle but striking look.

Romantic Updo
This Giorgio Armani style gives a nod to vintage finger waves and textured curls from the 1920's, but by gathering all of the hair up on top and pushed forward into a faux floppy fringe, the look is given a thoroughly modern makeover. It’s a great look for clients growing their hair out too.
First, prep the hair with a volumising product from a brand such as Indola or a strong hold mousse and then roughly blow-dry it to enhance the volume even more. Next, curl all of the hair with a small barrelled tong, as this will make the hair malleable and allow you to shape it into whatever structure you desire. Then gather all of the hair up on top of the head and pin it up, but leave the ends to flow freely.
Tease out hair around the sides so it isn't pulled too flat against the face and then brush gently through the curls to encourage them to fall forwards and to the side. For added texture use a dusting of a root thickening powder and use a strong hold hairspray to keep the desired shape.
