Monday

This week I started by filming some content for Indola. As a brand ambassador I often go down to the head office to create content or shoot some step-by-step videos using their products. This time I’m using their Blonde Expert lightener range on a curly haired model and showcasing how to use the Care & Style range. As a freelancer my weeks can really vary. Some Mondays, I’ll be catching up on admin, organising my diary and picking up stock for the week ahead and others I get to be more creative. No two weeks are ever the same!

Tuesday

I was filming some more content for Indola over at my friend’s studio; I even roped my 14-year-old son into being my videographer and he did an amazing job! I found the model by posting on my Instagram stories the week before and had a huge response. Holly got in contact, and she was perfect for the wet look I wanted to create. Even better, I now have a group of models I can contact when I want to create more content.

Wednesday

Wednesday was a fully booked day of cutting in the co-working space I work out of. I’m lucky to have such a diverse client base; I never replicate the same haircut on anyone else. I will always encourage my clients to be the most authentic version of themselves, whether that translates to a classic style or something more alternative. I think it’s so important to have a wide skillset when it comes to working with people.

Thursday

Thursday is my late night, so I will often work from 10am until 7pm – sometimes later if I have a client who can’t make it any other day. I had a colourful day this week with three clients all booking in for both colour and cut appointments. I don’t book a client in between appointments as I like to give them all my undivided attention.

Friday

This is usually my last day in the salon for the week and it’s a jam packed one! I’m fully booked from 10am until 6pm with a mixture of cuts and colours.

Saturday

I started my day by heading to Capital Hair & Beauty in Oxford and collecting some stock for the week ahead.

Before I get ready to stock up, I like to go through my diary and work out what colours and products I will need; this helps stop me from buying too much, plus I don’t have to carry as much stock around with me.

Next, I went through my books and arranged my appointments. I’ll often have clients message me on social media or via text to book in if they don’t have access to my booking system. This also allows me to plan any content days I can fit in for the week. I don’t always remember or have the time to film content when I’m in the salon, so this allows me to set aside some time where I can focus solely on that.

Sunday

This is my favourite day of the week; I can be at home with my family, cook a wholesome meal and relax!

It’s so important to have a day to yourself as a freelancer; we need to completely zone out from work. As a freelancer, you’re the machine that keeps your business operating and thriving and it can be difficult to switch off from that sometimes, but I always allow myself one guilt-free day to reset and recharge.
