Bold & Beautiful
After months of substandard DIY efforts and excessive length, your clients are no doubt buzzing to get back to blonde. We spoke to some of our faves to find out their bold blonde predictions for SS21.
Where to start
For industry award-winner Anne Veck, the consultation is key, whether it’s for a new or existing blonde client. “With many clients returning to the salon with large regrowth and most likely wanting to return immediately to their blonde looks you want to ensure you get it right,” says Anne. “Discuss with your client exactly what they want; how blonde do they want to go? Are they willing to change the shape of their hair? It’s also important to know their full hair history so you’ll need to go as far back as the length of their hair, around three years if it’s passed their shoulders.”
Blushing Blondes
This summer is all about celebrating blondes and embracing something new. For Darrel Starkey of Taylor’s Hair Studio, that means the Blushing Blonde. “Following on from the Rose Gold trend of the past few years, we’re moving the trend on and taking inspiration from a pink diamond and pastel palette – think pretty and creative,” says Darrel. Tim Scott-Wright says summer is all about his globally blonde trend, where a stunning rose gold is added to natural red hair, resulting in a beautiful pink hue. And it’s a trend that’s catching on. “The pink wash sits over the copper gold base, achieving a beautiful rose gold,” explains Tim, but this gorgeous tone isn’t just for redheads. You can expect blushing blondes to be highly requested in the salon or with your mobile clients.
Low maintenance and lived-in blondes
At Lily’s Hair Salon in Norfolk, owner Alice Harvey says it’s all about sandy blonde shades and giving low maintenance options this summer. “Keeping things low maintenance with a rooted blonde blending into much brighter freehand highlights is a great alternative for clients who simply want to enhance their natural shade. Freehand highlights are a perfect technique to build lighter ends while maintaining dimension; I love the Goldwell Elumen toning range for that perfect multi-dimensional blonde,” shares Alice.
For Goldwell Master Colourist Safy Burton, it’s about building on the natural blonde shades that clients embraced during 2020. “It’s time to make the most of the lived-in look which means cooling down all the brighter shades and adding warmth elsewhere, with shades such as honey blonde,” says Safy.
Dylan McConnachie, of Dylan McConnachie Hair agrees, saying it’s all about enhancing the clients’ natural hair colour. This also means they can leave longer periods of time in between colour appointments. Dylan explains: “As we move towards Summer, clients will be opting for that beautiful, relaxed, lived-in blonde – sun- kissed and beachy: it’s all about that golden hour effect.
Instead of a bold and heavy change, the colour choice will enhance the client’s natural colour and complement their complexion and natural texture.”
Take care
With all blondes, it’s important to leave the hair as healthy as possible, and even when you’re creating the most beautiful blondes possible, it could go to waste if you don’t educate your clients on aftercare. Thankfully, says OSMO ambassador and salon owner Becky Sutherland, caring for blonde hair has never been easier.
“It’s important to recommend purple shampoos and masks to your newly blonde clients. I love OSMO’s Super Silver No Yellow Shampoo as it’s perfect for ensuring blondes stay brighter for longer in-between visits and they only need to use it once or twice a week to keep yellow at bay,” says Becky.

Is K18 a Protein?
K18 is built differently...
As hair stylists, we all know about protein overload. That dreaded dry, brittle feeling in the hair is not only an undesirable result, but any treatments you apply won't be able to penetrate deep into the hair fibre and work their magic. But don’t worry! K18 has got your back.

Introducing Chantelle, a talented beautician, hair extension specialist and proud owner of ‘Chantelle’s Beautique’. Meet Sophie, owner of ‘Sophie’s Lashes & Beauty’ which she has been running now for over 7 years!
Sophie gained a wealth of experience working in the industry from her background working in prestigious 5 hotel & spa and salon settings which lead her up to starting a business of her own. We talk about all things beauty and the curved tweezers that she can’t live without!
Hi Sophie, tell us a little bit about your journey and how you go into the industry and what lead up to starting out on your own?
I gained a lot of knowledge from working in different settings from working with a big teams in a 5 star hotels and spas to smaller beauty salon environments. I gained so much knowledge from working in both settings and although it was hard work and long hours.
I started out by working in a few different 5 star hotels with spas and a salons where I gained all my knowledges and experiences from each one to put together for my own business! It was hard work and long hours all the practice paid off. It was actually one of my clients I saw regularly in the salon I worked at that said I should set up on my own and gave me the confidence to go self-employed and I’ve not looked back since!
K18 Biomimetic Hair Science vs. Bond Builders
As professionals in the hairdressing industry, we're well aware of the constant innovation occurring in our field. Our clients love to dramatically alter their look with the ever-changing trends and we do everything we can to prioritise the health of their hair. Bond-building treatments have long been a staple in salons to address this need. However, allow us to present the latest advancement: biomimetic hair science and K18!
Understanding the Future of Haircare: From Bond Builders to Biomimetic Hair Science
For centuries, the haircare industry relied on cosmetic chemistry to conceal damage. Historical solutions like oils and conditioners were designed to sit on the surface of the hair, providing a temporary fix by improving its appearance and manageability. However, these solutions fell short of addressing hair's health at its core.

What is K18 and how does it work?
Following the natural structure of hair, the biologically active peptide is considered natural. Unlike traditional bonding agents, it is not rinsed away by water or shampoo, making K18 a genuine and enduring remedy for damaged hair. Healthy hair originates in the salon, and K18 believes its influence starts at the salon chair and radiates outward. While K18 is suitable for all hair types and services, the most significant improvements are seen in damaged hair.
