Summer Blondes
After a tumultuous few months, nothing says freedom like a new hair colour! Check out some of our fave colour predictions for Summer. By Charisse Kenion
This summer we’re all about lived-in colour. Whether our clients are channelling their inner Gigi Hadid blonde, or want that perfect J-Lo glow caramel, by using a mix of freehand, foiling and creative colour techniques we’re able to give them their perfect lived-in look, and, what’s more, it will grow out seamlessly.
Carla Stone, Urban Chic Salon @hairbycarla_urbanchic
For SS20 ‘twisted Balayage is the trend to look out for. A more natural take on the subtle blonde balayage technique that has been a favourite amongst clients over the past year, this look is very subtle and is created using a freehand technique, with the colour painted onto the hair and blending gradually for the perfect blend.
Kevin Paul Finnell, F&M Hairdressing @fmhairdressing
My top tip? Toner! Brass tones are inevitable for blondes and this can be challenging as a colourist but toners are your best friend. I love using a toner range that’s natural and kind to hair while it reduces brass tones and cares for the hair simultaneously. Toners add a shine to the hair which gives a gorgeous finish and I always advise clients to avoid over-washing their hair; not only does this dilute the toner more quickly, it can also cause the blonde to tarnish and encourage brassy tones to appear.
Krysia West, Perfectly Posh Hair Design @pposhhair
For 2020 I think we will see a lot less bleaching and full heads of blonde colour and instead, more subtle fine highlights and babylights, as well as balayage. These services are great as they avoid a very obvious regrowth and give the hair a more natural appearance. For blondes in the salon I always use Wella Blondor mixed with Wellaplex to ensure hair is kept in its best condition. With blonde haired clients especially, it’s incredibly important to suggest conditioners, heat protectors and home care treatments for them to take home and use regularly.
Leandro Santos Santana, Decode Hair by Leandro @decode_hair_by_leandro
Blonde is often the colour of choice for many people come the summer months, but it’s important to remember that there is quite a lot of maintenance required to keep hair looking and feeling fantastic. Whether it’s a balayage, tint or highlights I always recommend a toner – for added shine and strength throughout. Also, be sure to recommend a brightening hair mask as an overnight treatment once a week for instant nourishment that protects against damage.
Dan Spiller, JOICO Colour Ambassador @danspiller2010
With blonde hair it’s just as important to look at the products your clients are using on their hair at home, as products with colour in them can change their hair colour. With oils in particular, always advise clear, natural oils such as Coconut or Argan that won’t turn hair yellow or brassy.

Neil Barton of Neil Barton Hair is a Goldwell Ambassador with his finger on the pulse of all the latest colour trends. Read on for his predictions.
For brunettes, rich, nutty mid-tones to extreme darks will be popular, especially those that are super cool with a underlying black hue. Think truffle and nutty tones, both of which infuse tones of blue and red and are classic and extremely versatile.
Blonde never goes out of style and two of my favourite blonde hues for the season are rich tea – a buttery tone that creates a must-have effect – and lemon cream, a yellow-inspired blonde that’s refreshing, clean and light.
For something more playful, muted pastel tones are also on-trend this season. Think softer tones that fade beautifully like peaches, lilacs and dusky pinks. Some of my favourite pastel tones include Lilatech, a modern version of classic lilac with a gender-neutral appeal, Sakura pink, a peachy pink shade with a great saturation depth and Neo Mint, a gorgeous fashion colour that embodies a forward-thinking and optimistic mood.
I also think colour contrasting will be huge as we head further into 2020; with this look most of the hair remains one colour, with the addition of some chunky highlights for a statement finish.
OSMO Ambassador Becky Sutherland predicts the top colour shades for summer
On trend and vibrant, a gorgeous peach blonde is the perfect summer shade for fresh and fashionable locks. Team it with a bright headband for a festival hair look and you’re good to go! Always advise clients to maintain colour with OSMO Colour Save Shampoo and OSMO Moisture Spray.
Next up, a summertime go-to is pastel shade pairing – ideal for staying one step ahead of the trend whilst standing out from the crowd. Summer nights call for fun hair colour pairs so be prepared to experiment! I’m also loving sun-streaked warm tones – a sunkissed brunette will always be on-trend throughout the summer and it’s perfectly low maintenance – just ensure clients take home OSMO’s Deep Moisture Intensive Repair Mask to keep it glossy.
Colour panelling is set to be a huge summer trend so why not pair a beautiful icy silver with a soft pastel colour?

Is K18 a Protein?
K18 is built differently...
As hair stylists, we all know about protein overload. That dreaded dry, brittle feeling in the hair is not only an undesirable result, but any treatments you apply won't be able to penetrate deep into the hair fibre and work their magic. But don’t worry! K18 has got your back.

Introducing Chantelle, a talented beautician, hair extension specialist and proud owner of ‘Chantelle’s Beautique’. My clients love my set up and really appreciate the little touches like being able to park with ease and having more of a cosy experience away from the hustle and bustle of a busy salon. As well as running my own business at home, I also enjoy teaching others on their journey starting out in the trade with my own accredited courses at home as another branch of my business called ‘The Hair and Beauty Training Beautique’. Meet Sophie, owner of ‘Sophie’s Lashes & Beauty’ which she has been running now for over 7 years!
Sophie gained a wealth of experience working in the industry from her background working in prestigious 5 hotel & spa and salon settings which lead her up to starting a business of her own. We talk about all things beauty and the curved tweezers that she can’t live without!
Hi Sophie, tell us a little bit about your journey and how you go into the industry and what lead up to starting out on your own?
I gained a lot of knowledge from working in different settings from working with a big teams in a 5 star hotels and spas to smaller beauty salon environments. I gained so much knowledge from working in both settings and although it was hard work and long hours.
I started out by working in a few different 5 star hotels with spas and a salons where I gained all my knowledges and experiences from each one to put together for my own business! It was hard work and long hours all the practice paid off. It was actually one of my clients I saw regularly in the salon I worked at that said I should set up on my own and gave me the confidence to go self-employed and I’ve not looked back since!
K18 Biomimetic Hair Science vs. Bond Builders
As professionals in the hairdressing industry, we're well aware of the constant innovation occurring in our field. Our clients love to dramatically alter their look with the ever-changing trends and we do everything we can to prioritise the health of their hair. Bond-building treatments have long been a staple in salons to address this need. However, allow us to present the latest advancement: biomimetic hair science and K18!
Understanding the Future of Haircare: From Bond Builders to Biomimetic Hair Science
For centuries, the haircare industry relied on cosmetic chemistry to conceal damage. Historical solutions like oils and conditioners were designed to sit on the surface of the hair, providing a temporary fix by improving its appearance and manageability. However, these solutions fell short of addressing hair's health at its core.
K18 & Your Salon Services - How to incorporate K18 Services for Ultimate Hair Restoration
Learn how to leverage K18 products in your salon services to reverse damage, fortify hair and enhance salon results all whilst boosting your salon profits. Discover our step-by-step instructions for every treatment, from lightening to styling in our handy salon go-to guide!
What is K18 and how does it work?
Following the natural structure of hair, the biologically active peptide is considered natural. Unlike traditional bonding agents, it is not rinsed away by water or shampoo, making K18 a genuine and enduring remedy for damaged hair. Healthy hair originates in the salon, and K18 believes its influence starts at the salon chair and radiates outward. While K18 is suitable for all hair types and services, the most significant improvements are seen in damaged hair.
